The Route 66 Malt Shop is located on Historic Route 66 in Albuquerque New Mexico. It is located at 1720 Central Ave. SW between Old Town and Downtown. The Malt Shop is located in the former Horn Oil and Motor Lodge which was built in 1946. With reference to ther image to the left, the Malt Shop sits in the building to the left fronted by the old gas pumps.

Owners Eric Szeman and Diane Avila are dedicated to preserving the culture of Route 66. The Malt Shop represents the look and feel of a vintage roadside grill and soda fountain with a menu of authentic dishes.

The Route 66 Malt Shop is renown for its homemade Rootbeer which has earned honors as one of the top ten root beers in the United States. In addition, the Malt Shop serves up their signature bleu cheese green chile cheeseburger and two-lane Hebrew National hot dogs. Of course, malts, sundaes and floats are proudly made the old fashioned way with hand-scooped ice creams.

Eric and Diane are continually working to make the Route 66 Malt Shop a landmark on Route 66 and have recently invested in a classically styled neon sign.

You'll enjoy the authentic decor with a soda fountain counter and diner stools, a retro styled diner booth, and several tables. The walls feature Route 66 memorabilia and the black and white checkered tile floor adds to the retro atmosphere.

Eric and Diane also are the home base for Route 66 Pedicabs which offer tourists and locals unique transportation to the Downtown and Old Town districts.

The Malt Shop has won over legions of fans including the food reviewers of local media as well as national attention in magazines such as True West and Sunset Magazine as well as tourist guides such as Fodors. Come find out what the raves are all about!
